Wartburg College Profile
Wartburg College is a fully accredited four-year, coeducational liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is dedicated to challenging and nurturing students for lives of leadership and service as a spirited expression of their faith and learning. The college celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2002. Wartburg ranks as Iowa's top comprehensive college in U.S. News & World Report's 2007 edition of America's Best Colleges. It is included in Best Midwestern Colleges, a publication of The Princeton Review and is one of 200 colleges in Peterson's Top Colleges for Sciences.

THE FACULTY
Approximately 107 full-time faculty members are involved in the important tasks of teaching students and engaging in scholarly and creative activity. The student-faculty ratio is 12:1, and the average class size is 21. Faculty members are expected to be effective classroom teachers interested in students as individuals; scholars or artists who continue to develop professionally; and professional educators open to new ideas in curriculum development and pedagogy. We actively seek candidates who have appreciation and understanding of the church-related liberal arts college. The teaching load for full-time faculty is seven courses per academic year: three in Fall Term, three in Winter Term, and one in May Term.

BENEFITS
Faculty members receive an excellent benefits package, including TIAA-CREF retirement, family health and dental insurance, a personal travel account, tuition remission for spouses and children, and access to college events at low or no cost.

FACILITIES
The 118-acre Wartburg campus includes more than 30 buildings, many of which are connected by a system of skyways and covered walkways. Old Main, built in 1880 and renovated in 1986, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college has opened 11 new facilities since 1990. The most recent are:
• The Science Center (2004), which doubled the number of classrooms and laboratories available for the sciences and mathematics and includes the Platte Observatory on the northwest edge of the campus.
• Saemann Student Center (2004), which includes McCaskey Lyceum, a performance venue utilized by the theatre program and a variety of campus events.
• Walston-Hoover Stadium and outdoor athletic complex (2002), which includes a Field Turf playing field and all-weather track.

Campaign Wartburg, which concluded in 2006, exceeded a goal $88 million for the endowment, the Annual Fund, new facilities, and special projects. The Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center, scheduled to open in Fall 2007, will provide all-new indoor athletic facilities and a comprehensive wellness center to serve the campus and the Waverly area community.

Students have access to open-access and departmental computing clusters throughout the campus. Classrooms and residence hall rooms are connected to the campus-wide network, and users can access file servers to distribute assignments, use e-mail, and browse Internet resources, including the library's online public access catalog.
